Spring Fashion From Head to Toe

Lisa Wolstromer

As the days grow longer and thesun shines brighter, our inner fashionista knows that the search for a new spring wardrobe is on. We are storing the winter coats for the year and looking forward to warmer weather, sleeveless tops, shorts, sunglasses, and pretty pedicures.

This spring is about a return to femininity: a modern simple look and attention to detail. Trend highlights include color blocking, bold stripes and prints, Bermuda shorts, combinations of lace and leather, black and white pairings, simple ruffles, jackets, and a new color of the year.

Spin the Color Wheel
What’s your color?  Personally, I love earth tones, which is why I was thrilled to hear the new color of the year takes its cue from nature. According to Pantone®, emerald green is the color of the year for 2013 – a lively, radiant, lush green. Many designers are incorporating emerald into their spring collections and you’ll see this color emerging not only in fashion and beauty products, but also in home goods.
Black and white is also telling a dominant color story this spring; it’s a great combination for a sharp and modern look. Make a statement in a black and white geometric pattern or big, bold stripes. Or, go for a blank slate with all white combined with a neutral color such as silver or beige for a clean, confident look. Silver is the top metallic look this season, showing up on everything from shoes and handbags to jackets and tops. It also adds a “wow” factor to basic black or white.

Fabrics are showing up in vivid colors too, allowing for variation depending on your mood or activity. Pair a neutral color with bright fuchsia, orange, or red. Embrace the monochromatic look, with one color head to toe, for spring. It’s simple yet sophisticated, as well as slimming.

Fabrics, prints, and patterns… oh my!
Printed patterns and strong textiles are everywhere this spring. Take your pick of sheer fabrics, ruffles, monochromatic color schemes, bold prints, stripes, color blocking; and don’t forget leather. This typically biker-chic fabric has become a feminine staple for warm weather wear. We are also seeing leather paired with lace to soften the look. Speaking of lace, this fabric is no longer a formal-attire-exclusive; we are seeing lace
on handbags, pants, casual dresses, and even shoes.

Florals, geometric patterns, and paisley are transitioning with us into spring and summer. When you are feeling the desire to make a statement, pick up a pair of ankle-length pants in one of these bold prints.

As the summer months roll in, we want to show off our sun-kissed skin. This year, go with flowing fabrics with subtle prints and you are bound to feel beautiful and bold. The color blocking trend is also still going strong, so another way to show off that summer tan is with a pair of fuchsia, color-blocked Bermuda shorts.

What outfit is complete without accessories? Sunglasses are a must, and we are seeing a lot of new and fun shapes, colors, and styles. When picking out necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, go for statement jewelry. We are talking about oversized pieces, layered chains, and bold colors. Don’t be afraid to think inside the box when it comes to shoes and bags. Boxy-shaped bags and heels are the rage this season and a chunky-heel is a perfect complement to a flowing skirt or dress. If you’re going for a more unusual style, wedge sneakers are becoming a cool trend this season. You can find them in bright colors and a variety of price points. For the boardwalks, beaches, and hot summer nights, grab a pair of strappy sandals or sandal boots, which is a combination of a gladiator boot and open heel.

When it comes to finding the latest  fashion trends, there’s no better place to search than Cherry Hill Mall with its roster of leading fashion brands including:  Michael Kors, Henri Bendel, True Religion, White House Black Market, and Francesca’s Collection just to name a few.
